2010-11 school year marks highest level of giving to Radnor schools

Wayne, PA – The Radnor Educational Foundation (REF) announces grant awards exceeding $ 66,000 for the 2010-2012 school year. Working in collaboration with Radnor Township School District teachers and administrators, REF has selected to award grant support to programs that will enhance the curriculum at all Radnor schools.

“REF has granted over $ 600,000 to Radnor schools since its inception in 1994”, states Joy Antonoplos, Executive Director. “We rely on the generous gifts of individuals in the community, corporate sponsors, foundations, PA Tax Credit Program (EITC) contributions and partnership with the PTO/PTSA organizations to support the advancement of curriculum in Radnor.”

REF raises money throughout the year to fund programs that are not part of the school district budget. For the spring funding cycle, REF awarded grants in the amount of $ 44,230 to support the following programs:

Elementary/Middle School Science Education Equipment

Purchase of science education equipment for RMS and all elementary schools to include microscopes, Bunsen burners, scales, thermometers, beakers, an earthquake table and a weather station. Sponsored by VWR International, LLC.

RMS Sensory Center

Radnor Middle School sensory center to include build out costs and equipment needs for learning challenged students as part of the CASL (Communication, Academic, Social, and Life Skills). Grant is supported by Northwestern Mutual – The Philadelphia Group.

REACH

Radnor Encouraging Awareness, Communication & Hope for our Community (REACH). Community coalition group grant for initial communication and website infrastructure. The group promotes interaction and dialogue among parents about risky behaviors.

Patricia Polacco Children’s Author Visit

Award-winning children’s author and illustrator residency at all Elementary schools.

Watershed academic partnership with Tanner Duckrey Elementary

7th grade classroom cross-cultural academic and social partnership with Tanner Duckrey Elementary School in North Philadelphia. Students of diverse backgrounds and different abilities will learn about each other and community art by designing a community puzzle mural in each school.

Highland Homes After School Tutoring Program

After school tutoring/mentoring program for K-12 students of Highland Homes.

RADTV-(school TV studio- Channel 11)

Professional equipment enhancements.

21st Century Virtual Classroom

Interactive learning classroom environment equipped with videos and microphones that allows RMS students and teachers to expand beyond the limitations of the traditional classroom setting and connect with students, teachers and experts in other locations across the country and around the world.
