Neighbors Helping Neighbors

An enduring tradition with a new name

Families choose Radnor Township Schools for many reasons. Proud alumni with fond memories return to raise their children in Radnor, new families come to our community because of our reputation for exemplary education, and young parents remain in our district because they want to send their growing children to great schools with their friends and neighbors.

In every community, neighbors are sometimes called upon to support each other. In Radnor, we have a tradition of offering support when a student is facing financial hardship that affects his ability to participate fully in school life. Sometimes a guidance counselor, at times a teacher, and often our school principals become aware of a family facing disruption in their ability to meet basic life needs including housing, utilities, and food or clothing. Because Radnor is a caring community with abundant resources available to our schools and homes, our school personnel have been able to assist families facing temporary need in once again creating sustainability within their family system.

Last fall, the Radnor Middle School PTO and principal Anthony Stevenson reached out to the Radnor Educational Foundation (REF) to discuss how RTSD might use REF’s nonprofit structure and operations to develop a more systematic approach to addressing temporary financial hardship among families. RTSD central administration, its principals, guidance counselors, social workers, the PTOs and REF have worked together to create Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a program administered by RTSD social workers with support through a grant seeded by REF.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides assistance, accountability and transparency, while still maintaining privacy for recipients and allowing those who wish to support the program the security of a tax-deductible donation to a registered 501(c)(3) organization. REF will be directing 100% of all donations restricted to Neighbors Helping Neighbors to assist families in need. These funds do not replace vital donations needed to support other REF programs serving the schools and students of Radnor Township School District.

If you would like to support our community’s tradition of helping families experiencing temporary financial hardship, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Radnor Educational Foundation, and request that your contribution be restricted to Neighbors Helping Neighbors. When you make a donation to REF, you are making a difference not only for one child or one school, but an entire community.
