Neighbors Helping Neighbors

An Enduring Tradition

In every community, neighbors are sometimes called upon to support each other. In Radnor, we have a tradition of offering support when a student is facing serious financial hardship at home, which affects his ability to participate fully in school life. Sometimes a guidance counselor, a teacher, or a school principal becomes aware of a family facing disruption in their ability to meet basic life needs including housing, utilities, food or clothing. Because Radnor is a caring community with abundant resources, our school personnel had been able to assist families facing temporary need and restore stability within their family system.

Several years ago, REF was called upon by RTSD administrators to see how the District might use REF’s non-profit structure and operations to develop a more systematic approach to addressing temporary financial hardship among families. The result was the creation of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a program jointly administered by RTSD social workers and REF’s NHN committee, with financial support from a grant seeded by REF.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides assistance, accountability and transparency, while still maintaining privacy for recipients and allowing those who wish to support the program the security of a tax-deductible donation to a registered 501(c)(3) organization. REF directs 100% of all donations restricted to Neighbors Helping Neighbors to assist families in need. These funds do not replace vital donations needed to support other REF programs serving the schools and students of Radnor Township School District.

If you would like to support our community’s tradition of helping families experiencing temporary financial hardship, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Radnor Educational Foundation and request that your contribution be restricted to Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
