The members of the Radnor Robotics team were finalists at the DockBots Vex Robotics Tournament held January 22 at Christopher Dock High School in Lansdale. The tournament team, mentored by RHS teacher Ken Delaney, included Kevin Yim, Jake Campolo, Megan Doherty, Dylan Carney, Abby Sydnes and Dan McCone.

Radnor Robotics is sponsored by a grant from Centocor and the Radnor Educational Foundation.

Radnor competed against 36 teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. At the end of qualification matches, Radnor had a 3-2 record and was ranked in ninth place. After seeding and alliance selections, Radnor was the sixth-seeded alliance.

Radnor selected Upper Darby High School and Driven Robotics, a home-schooled team from Broomall, as its alliance partners. In the best of three elimination matches, Radnor swept through the quarter and semifinals, winning both rounds 2-0. In the finals the No. 1 seed was too good, and Radnor finished as the first runner-up.

The Radnor team received many compliments on its unique robot design and the use of PID (proportional–integral–derivative) control loop, which allows the robotic arm to move to and maintain preset heights at a push of a button.

The team will compete again February 26 at the Delaware County Christian School in Newtown Square and March 19 at the Downingtown STEM Academy.
