Some of Radnor’s most vulnerable students attended summer camp at Wayne Elementary School to improve literacy. Funding offered an incentive for students to attend camp, as they earned “Book Bucks” for each day they attended camp. On the last day of camp, students visited Children’s Book World in Haverford to purchase a book(s) using their Book Bucks. They also enjoyed a frozen treat purchased from So Fun Yogurt in Wayne.

Funding provided a new set of accordion-style panels on casters that benefits students in all 5 Radnor Township schools. The boards allow a professional display of student art and other pieces during shows that enhance events celebrating visual arts and creative expression, while demonstrating the district’s continued commitment to excellence in art education.

As a reward and incentive for students attending summer reading camp (see Grant #5), working hard and always doing their best, Thursdays are fun days! The students were able to enjoy multiple programs including a field day, water day, and ice cream socials. This grant helped 300 students participate in Thursday Fun Days!

Bee-Stro is the best way to enjoy a new courtyard at Wayne Elementary School, whose school logo features a bee. Students are able to cash in their “School Wide Positive Behavior Bee” tickets for lunch outside while enjoying the courtyard. This funding provided for a table and chairs to be purchased for this purpose. The table and chairs allow for classes to be conducted and lunch to be enjoyed all while experiencing some nature during the school day.

Funding allowed for Wayne Elementary School to build a sound garden on the lower playground. The garden has promoted a sense of community with all students who choose to participate in unguided music making. Listening to each other play a range of sounds will help students find their voice in an inclusive environment.

Funding permitted Radnor High School’s ACS Chemistry Club and volunteers to obtain supplies and assemble science kits for Wayne Elementary School students. These kits include materials, instructions, and explanations to perform grade-specific experiments that could be completed at home with adult supervision. This project provided volunteer experience to the high school students while encouraging the elementary students to do STEM-related activities to improve their skill set and development.

82 students from the 7th grade were able to take a trip to New York City to see the musical The Outsiders. The impact of this trip has enhanced students’ understanding of literature through a unique and memorable cultural experience, allowed students to witness a live performance and gain insight into the themes of friendship, social class and identity portrayed in the story.

This grant enabled the Women’s Resource Center in Wayne, PA to work with Radnor Middle School to implement the Girls Lead program to 27 students. This school and curriculum-based program sought out adolescents with leadership potential and allowed them to practice leadership skills (conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making and communication) and live skills in mental health, emotional literacy, and social media practices.

Radnor Academy is a new program in Radnor High School that provides students experiencing difficulty coming to school each day with a full- time emotional support setting to help motivate and ensure their success. Radnor Robotics has competed in the VEX Robotics Competition since 2004. This grant was used to buy replacement materials and upgrades available for use in this competition. The robotics team is comprised of 10-20 high school students that are interested in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math). This grant provides them with a fun and challenging environment to develop skills they can use in the future.

Funding helped the Radnor High School Spanish 4 Honors Class to complete a project spreading encouragement and kindness through brightly painted rocks written in Spanish with inspiring words, scattered throughout and around the school. These will prompt students who see them to be intrigued, read them, and figure out what they say. When life can be so hectic, this class is sure to make everyone reading these rocks smile!

Funding allowed for an order of more weights to be purchased for the weight room. This increased the number of students able to work out at one time, allowing more of a community feel. The purchase also included some lighter weights, in hopes to empower female lifters and for athletes to condition small muscle groups.

The Multicultural Club at Radnor High School was able to hold a potluck, the first one since 2020. The potluck is open to students, their families as well as faculty and staff. This event has allowed RHS students to share their individual cultural experiences and celebrate diversity.
