RHS Composer in Residence

Composer Marsh Bowe was commissioned to compose an original score for the Radnor High School Band and Jazz Programs. Bowe worked closely with the band director to create musical materials that represented students’ abilities. Ms. Bowe also worked directly with groups of students.

RHS Smart boards

SMART boards were purchased for the mathematics essentials classes to provide a collaborative way for students to visualize and experience tactilely the abstract concepts of Algebra and Geometry. The SMART Board technologies have created a student-centered learning environment that provides differentiated instruction for students at various levels of mastery.

RMS Greenhouse

Together with the RMS PTO, REF funded a cedar greenhouse for Watershed students to grow organic greens for the school cafeteria and to practice best management horticulture. The greenhouse is also used to cultivate native plants to study and plant in future stream bank restoration projects along the riparian corridor. The greenhouse promotes opportunities to conduct investigations and share student expertise with the community.

WES Mosiac Wall

Students and faculty at Wayne Elementary School worked with a renowned mosaic artist to design and build a permanent installation in the school. This collaborative and creative process highlighted the essence of the school’s community and the final product is a source of WES pride and a celebration of its shared history. This beautiful tile wall can be seen at the main entrance of the school. REF has funded mosaic projects at all district schools.

RES Reading

Reading Olympics is a celebration of reading and a unique opportunity for students to read and discuss literature. The team reads from a list of 45 books and competes against other schools to answer fact-based questions about the books. This club provides the opportunity for students of diverse backgrounds to come together and discuss literature throughout the year.

IES Virtual Classroom with PMA

Each of the three first grades at IES engaged in an hour-long virtual tour of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, via the Smart Board in each classroom. Linda O’Leary, the head of long-distance learning at PMA, was the docent. She used a museum publication, A is For Art Museum, as the basis of the lesson. The lesson served as the springboard into a creative writing project.
