John A. DeFlaminis, Ph.D.

John A. DeFlaminis is the Executive Director of the Penn Center for Educational Leadership (PCEL) which is Penn’s outreach, technical assistance and training and development center for the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.

Before coming to Penn in 2004, Dr. DeFlaminis served as the Superintendent of the Radnor Township School District for 5 terms and a total of 17 years, the second longest term in modern school time. He was also one of the founding parents of Radnor Educational Foundation.

Throughout his career, his teaching has ranged from elementary to university work and Dr. DeFlaminis has consulted with State Departments of Education, rural and urban school districts, administrative organizations, private business organizations, and foundations. He has conducted hundreds of workshops and keynote speeches in many areas, but especially those related to key management processes such as motivation and leadership. Since 1987, he has served as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania and has taught the Organizational Leadership Capstone Module in Penn’s Mid-Career Doctoral Program.

He is very proud of his wife, Patti, who is a former administrator in the Lower Merion School District, and is an educational consultant, and his two grown sons, A.J. and John.
