The members of the Radnor Robotics team were finalists at the DockBots Vex Robotics Tournament held January 22 at Christopher Dock High School in Lansdale. The tournament team, mentored by RHS teacher Ken Delaney, included Kevin Yim, Jake Campolo, Megan Doherty, Dylan Carney, Abby Sydnes and Dan McCone.

Radnor Robotics is sponsored by a grant from Centocor and the Radnor Educational Foundation.

Radnor competed against 36 teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. At the end of qualification matches, Radnor had a 3-2 record and was ranked in ninth place. After seeding and alliance selections, Radnor was the sixth-seeded alliance.

Radnor teachers offered new technology and training

The Radnor Educational Foundation awarded a $12,000 grant to Radnor Township School District allowing four teachers to participate in the ACTS program (Aligning Curriculum to Technology Standards), offered as part of RTSD’s strategic plan. The ACTS initiative is designed to expand teachers’ understanding of the application of technology to deepen students’ understanding of academic standards and to support the development of critical and creative thinking.

Ithan Elementary School has a new bird blind.

Fifth graders from the class of 2009 began creating the bird blind as a legacy project and passed it on to the rest of the students at Ithan. The bird blind was built using six large wooden panels with peep-hole cutouts that allow visitors to view birds without disturbing them or their habitat.

The Ithan Elementary School PTO’s Cultural Arts Committee will host esteemed authors Jules and Kate Feiffer Tues., Feb. 23. In a series of assemblies throughout the day, Jules and Kate will share their award-winning children’s literature and discuss their artistic processes.
