For the second straight year, Radnor Middle School 7th-graders got immersed in writing with Elizabeth Mosier, a published author and long-time educator. Mosier spent seven sessions over three weeks (April 30-May 18) working intensively with the students as part of the “My Life As A Reader: Students’ Journeys Through Books” project, presented by the RMS PTO’s cultural arts committee and underwritten by the Radnor Educational Foundation.
Patricia Polacco, an Award-Winning Author and Illustrator, Visits Ithan, Radnor and Wayne Elementary Schools
Patricia Polacco, a multiple award-winning author and illustrator of more than 40 picture books, spoke with students at Ithan, Radnor and Wayne Elementary Schools on Nov. 7 and 11. The visits were made possible in large part by a grant from the Radnor Educational Foundation (REF).
Two teams of students from Wayne Elementary School presented projects in the Harrisburg Capitol Rotunda May 23 as part of the Pennsylvania Association for Education and Communications and Technology Student Technology Showcase.
The impetus for this impressive student presentation was the attendance of WES principal Sharon Johns and librarian Susan Dahlstrom at the Temple University’s Powerful Voices for Kids summer camp last year. With help from Joan Cusano, the district director of instructional technology, and her staff, WES was able to integrate the technology required into the curriculum.
The June annual meeting of the Radnor Educational Foundation welcomed John DeFlaminis Ph.D., Bob Pietrobono, Kat Springer, Julie Tewksbury and Julia Ward as new board trustees. Sophie Faude RHS ’13 and Melvin Wilson RHS ’13 join the board as student representatives.
John DeFlaminis is the former superintendent of Radnor Township School District and is the Executive Director of the Penn Center for Educational Leadership at the Graduate School of Education.
Bob Pietrobono is Principal of Advisory Services for Ernst & Young, LLP. His two children attend Radnor High School.
2010-11 school year marks highest level of giving to Radnor schools
Wayne, PA – The Radnor Educational Foundation (REF) announces grant awards exceeding $ 66,000 for the 2010-2012 school year. Working in collaboration with Radnor Township School District teachers and administrators, REF has selected to award grant support to programs that will enhance the curriculum at all Radnor schools.
Ithan Elementary School Families Invited to Decorate Tiles that will be Hung in New Restroom for Uganda’s Bupala School Funded by Donations Raised by Radnor Middle School Students
Ithan Elementary School families are invited to share words and images of love and hope for Ugandan students at a tile-painting workshop on Monday, June 4 from 3-5:30 p.m. at the school. The decorated tiles will be hung in a new restroom for students attending Uganda’s Bupala School. The restroom was made possible through funds raised by Radnor Middle School students involved in teacher Jodi Sabra’s Uganda Pen Pal Project and through funds donated by the Radnor Educational Foundation. The restroom is being built this summer and will be decorated with tiles created at workshops held throughout the township during May and June. There is a $10 donation for each tile.
With a nearly $4,000 “bodyworks” grant from the Radnor Educational Foundation and elementary PTOs, health and wellness teachers Debbie Keyser, Doug Nowak and Brock Tracy were able to purchase models of the human heart, teeth and eyeballs as well as a full-body model showing muscles, the circulatory and nervous systems, and organs. These models help enhance student understanding of wellness concepts as well as helping increase student interest and understanding.
Over $15,000 awarded to Radnor Township Schools in support of science education equipment
Wayne, PA — VWR International, LLC recently awarded Radnor Educational Foundation (REF) over $ 15,000 to purchase science education equipment for Radnor Township schools. The equipment purchase will include digital and electric microscopes, bunsen burners, beakers, scales, thermometers, an earthquake table and a weather station.
